The San Antonio Market
San Antonio's energy sector is anchored by Valero Energy, the largest US independent petroleum refiner, which runs refineries, ethanol plants, and renewable diesel production from its San Antonio headquarters. CPS Energy, NuStar (now part of Sunoco), oil and gas producers, and cleantech and renewable operators round out the metro, including Mission Solar Energy's solar module manufacturing at Port San Antonio.
CPS Energy is the city-owned electric and gas utility and one of the largest municipal utilities in the US; it also holds a partial ownership share in the South Texas Project nuclear plant in Bay City. NuStar and Howard Energy Partners run pipeline and storage operations from San Antonio. The metro supports Eagle Ford Shale producers, whose production extends from south of San Antonio across South Texas.
